Current trends and possible solutions for delay in patient discharge: observations from a tertiary care paediatric hospital in Mumbai

Delay in discharge of the patient reduces bed availability any healthcare organization. In spite advancement medical systems and hospital management, delay discharges still exist. Hence, there was a need to evaluate factors contributing an exclusive paediatric hospital. A study from private general ward undertaken at tertiary care Mumbai, between September-October 2021. total 60 discharges, 30 each were analysed. The time order given by consultant that leaving reasons for recorded investigators. followed policy 180 min discharge. mean duration 153.18±34.60 whereas it 165.41±62.29 ward. However, 28% 43% delayed with 5.23±10.04 20.66±26.88 respectively. Time taken billing making sheet contributed maximum both wards. Though wards found be within standards, significant proportion delayed. We suggest multidisciplinary team consisting administrators, nurses, resident doctors consultants help ease overall burden on system.
